Kids grow fast. Their clothes can keep going.

Next Leg connects DC families - passing down outgrown kids' clothes and gear from one home to the next.

Part of a step-by-step guide for kids' clothing and gear exchange. Features text outlining the next steps for kids' clothes, including signing up as a family, getting matched with other families, and passing clothes on.

Our mission is to make sure every child in Washington DC has what they need to grow. We match parents of younger kids with parents whose kids are a step ahead, turning outgrown clothing and gear into ongoing support between families.

No more scouring marketplaces or going through other people’s junk. Just a parent a step ahead handing things to a parent a step behind, again and again as everyone grows. Families helping families, with every child at the center.

Don’t have Kids but Still Want to Help?

Next Leg is run by real parents in the DC community who have regular 9-5s and are taking time out of their busy lives to ensure every kid has what they need to grow. Support us by helping with costs associated with running this organization!

FAQs

How does the drop off of items work?

1

Drop offs occur quarterly. You’ll coordinate a location and time that works best for both families. We recommend a safe, public location when possible.

What kind of items can I pass down? Which items should I leave at home?

2

YES: Clothes, toys, books, extra diapers, unopened wipes, sports equipment, extracurricular supplies, and gear (high chairs, cribs, strollers etc) that are in good working condition.

NO: Opened or expired food, dirty or soiled clothing, car seats that have been in any sort of auto accident even if no damage is obvious.

I’m having trouble getting a hold of my partner family. Can you help?

3

Absolutely! We’ll try to contact them on your behalf. If that doesn’t work, we can pair you with another family. Just shoot us an email at nextlegdc@gmail.com. Please note - we are a small team of parents in DC. While we aim to respond within 72 hours, it may take us a bit longer! We appreciate your patience.

I don’t have a car. Can I still participate?

4

I don’t have kids but I want to get involved. How can I do that?

In an ideal scenario, one of the families would have a car to facilitate the pick up or drop off. We’ll try and pair you with a family who does. If not, we can try and pair you with a volunteer who can help.

Thank you so much! You can make a donation or volunteer to pick up/drop off items for those parents without cars. Shoot us an email at nextlegdc@gmail.com and we’ll share next steps.
